Not usually. We handle removal as part of the install, including hauling the old material away. Some setups let us install right over the existing floor if it’s flat and firmly attached. We check that before quoting either way.
Waterproof vinyl plank in most cases. Below-grade slabs move moisture upward year round, and hardwood or laminate will cup or swell. Engineered wood over a properly prepared slab can also work, depending on how the basement is used.
Wood and laminate expand and contract with humidity. Installing planks straight off the truck means they shift after installation, which shows up as gaps or buckling later. A few days in the room prevents it. Vinyl plank and tile do not need to acclimate.
It depends on the square footage, the product, and what the subfloor needs. A single bedroom in vinyl plank runs a day. A whole first floor in hardwood runs longer, especially if the subfloor needs work. You’ll get a timeline in the written estimate.
